Amazons MP3 offer

Posted in music, web on August 30th, 2008 by Hamish Rickerby – View Comments

I got an email yesterday from Amazon.com about the Verve’s new album Forth.  They were offering me a free, DRM free download of their latest song “Love is Noise”.  Having not heard anything out of the Verve for a while I was interested, and free is a pretty good price so I went to download.

The first thing I was unimpressed with was the Amazon.com downloader they tried to install on my machine.  I understand that some people may not understand how to add MP3s to iTunes, but the “skip this step” link to me was not in an intuitive place.  So, I accidentally downloaded it, went back to the page, then found the skip link.

But the real kicker with this is the below screenshot.

Dumb error message

Useless.

Why would they send me an offer I can’t redeem, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY KNOW THAT I DON’T LIVE IN THE US.  They have my address, I have purchased from them before.  Unimpressed.

Damn straight. Finest rock band ever. All I can say is “about time!”

What an absolutely fun album.

Mary Lou Lord w/ Semisonic – Sugar Sugar
Frente – Let the sun shine in
Violent Femmes – Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah
Dig – Fat Albert
Sublime – Hong Kong Phooey

There were only a couple of tracks I didn’t enjoy, and they were…

Butthole Surfers – Underdog
Helmet – Gigantor

Good stuff.

I think more bands should be involved with movie production. You get something completely different with them. And I’m not talking about “bands” like The Spice Girls, Mariah, or Britney Spears (cause they’ve all made awful movies).

This was well worth the watch.

Good stuff. I hadn’t heard of these guys before Saturday night (they were playing at my work party – my company rocks in that respect). I liked them there, and then got some of their tunes. I’m really quite impressed – how popular are these guys out of the UK?

I just found this entire album weak and soulless. Like they were just playing and singing with nothing behind it. Obviously I’m setting myself up for some flaming here, but this just was not for me.

:-(

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I quite liked it – and it’s unusual for me to enjoy an entire album of Madonna. There you go.

Not new but….

Posted in music on March 29th, 2006 by Hamish Rickerby – View Comments

…It’s new to me. Given the recent hype because of the movie, and the fact that a couple of my friends are really into him, I thought I should check out Johnny Cash. In my usual style, I’ve gone way overboard. I’ve got hold of the following albums.

American 3
American 4
American Recordings
At Folsom Prison
At San Quentin
Love, God, Murder [2cd]
Man In Black (54-58) [5cd]
Man In Black (59-62) [5cd]
Unchained
Unearthed [5cd]

So, I’m going to be all cashed out at the end of this I suspect. I’ve listened to American 3 so far. I give it a 3/5. One and Won’t Back Down are the best tracks there IMHO.

by Concord Dawn

I used to be a massive fan of Concord Dawn. The hard, industrial feeling dnb that they used to churn out. This album is not to my tastes. It’s alright, but it’s not great. My favourite track is Say Your Words (and only the 2nd half of it – that’s the hard type of dnb I like). I give the rest of the album a “so so” rating. Apart from Say Your Words, the other tracks I thought were OK were Breathe, Broken Eyes, Blow, Never Give Up On Love and Don’t Have To Run.

So, I’d say if you’re a fan of the older Concord Dawn, I wouldn’t recommend this album to you. If you like Shapeshifter, or that general friendlier dnb – smoother, more rolling – then I’d say give it a listen.
