GTD!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 2nd, 2006 by Hamish Rickerby – View Comments

I’ve been to the bank, and they were (in principal) happy with me assuming my entire mortgage, and transferring the property into a trust.

My lawyer should be delivering me a property settlement agreement today which I need to check, and then the mortgage will be all mine (hang on, that’s not a good thing!).

I should also be getting a copy of the trust deed today, which I need to read and accept, and then the trust gets set up.

It’s all on.

company (GMAC) flicked me an email last week. I need to print it out, sign it, scan the signed copy and email it back to them. Then they can release my details to all the 3rd parties to start to sort stuff out… It’s all happening!

Got rid of…

…about half of my clothes (all donated to a charity to raise funds for breast cancer research), and a whole stack of paper from my employer, health insurance, life insurance, banks etc…

I feel much lighter because of it. The relative bareness of my wardrobe is freaking me out a bit.

I’m probably going to try to sell my coffee table, my bookshelf, and my large couch (2.5m long, 4 seater) this week. I have to think about the couch actually. I don’t know if I want to get rid of it or not. I really like it, but I’m not going to have a need for it for a while. I might see if someone I know and trust wants it for a bit. It’s a very nice couch.

Got me a job…

…with Vodafone Group Services, as part of Global IT in Newbury, England. I’m starting on the 15th May. Quite quick really. I think I’m going to be doing telecommunications system design for 18+ countries or something. It’s a pretty big deal for me actually. I’m very pleased.

Should be out of Auckland sometime early May, and in the UK around the 10th of May I think. Haven’t got flights yet. That’s all part of the organisation around the transfer that I haven’t got done yet – I’m waiting for Group to get the written confirmation of my acceptance and then the transfer company apparently contact me.

Woohoo!

They were AMAZING. I was completely astounded by the show. Amina were fantastic too. I was completely blown away by the whole experience. Next place I plan on seeing them in Iceland.

Sorted

All done! Took way longer than I expected. I got my photos at Photo Warehouse, and then went up to the AA here on Albert St. Then I waited for about 20 minutes in the “Licensing” queue, only to discover to get an internationl drivers permit I go to the information counter.

But, it’s all done now. I don’t need it for the UK, but any other european country I drive in will want me to have it – it’s more of a just-in-case type item.

Easy Peasy – but I’ll still complain

It only costs me $20, and a passport sized photo. All the information that a New Zealander needs is available at the AA. However, I will make one complaint – the AA charge you $20 to go in and process it manually in store, $30 if you post it in (cause of course its more expensive for them to open an envelope rather than have the entire infrastructure of a building for me to wait in), and $40 to handle an online application, where I do all the work (scanning drivers license, and photos), and they just print the stuff out – they receive the data on a file server, and don’t even need to open an envelope.

Way to embrace the digital age, slackers. That sort of stuff just makes me angry.

I purchased a NAS…

…on the weekend. Quite a good one I think (good price point)

So, at the moment all my media is being transferred over to it, then I’m reformatting my 200Gb HD into HSFS, and moving the DVDs that I have back over to it. Then I’ll have a dedicated music server on my NAS, and my movie drive as a portable disk.

I am doing this…

Posted in Uncategorized on April 10th, 2006 by Hamish Rickerby – View Comments

…in anticipation of an imminent move overseas. I’m such a geek – I made a gantt chart of everything that I need to sort through, and have given myself activities for every night this week. Which reminds me, I better get off my computer and start sorting through my clothes – that’s the activity for tonight – I must be ruthless.

I want to move 13,000 miles away with only 2 suitcases, and perhaps a carry on bag, laptop bag and a suit bag (or 2) as well.

Got me some new D&G’s

I got one of the girls I work with to come out sunglasses shopping with me last week. Went down to a parallel importer on queen street, and they didn’t have anything I was interested in. I wanted some more fashionable glasses, not sports styled glasses. I already have some adidas ones, but I felt I needed a change.

So, into Sunglass Hut on Queen Street, have a look around, and I get very confused. I found it very difficult to determine which glasses are for which sex – there are some obvious female-themed glasses, but the mens ones are more difficult to distinguish. So, I speak to the clerk, and she gets me out quite a few pairs.

Long story short, the first pair I try on are the best. D&G 2075’s.

Nice.
